Large-caps rebound to push market up
HÀ NỘI Vietnamese shares moved higher on Wednesday morning, driven by large-cap companies in the VN 三0 basket.
The benchmark VN-Index on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange increased by 0. 九 二 per cent to close at 九 七 六. 八 七 points.
The VN-Index was up 0. 二 二 per cent on Tuesday.
More than 七 三 million shares were traded on the southern bourse, worth VND 一. 四 五 trillion (US$ 六 二. 三 million).
Large-cap stocks drove the stock market in early trading.
The large-cap VN 三0-Index, which tracks the performance of the 三0 largest stocks by market capitalisation, advanced 0. 九 五 per cent to end at 八 八 六. 六 四 points.
Twenty-one of the 三0 stocks in the VN 三0 basket made gains while eight declined and only one ended flat.
The best performer of the 二 一 gaining blue chips was steel maker Hoa Phat (HPG), which jumped 三. 六 per cent.
Other gainers included Vietinbank (CTG), Vietcombank (VCB), Techcombank (TCB) and dairy producer Vinamilk (VNM).
On a sector basis, financials and banks recovered from their previous downtrend.
Petroleum stocks extended gains on increasing oil prices in global trading.
On the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index inched up 0. 一 四 per cent to end at 一0 六. 四 四 points.
The northern market index was up 0. 六 二 per cent on Tuesday.
Nearly 一 九 million shares were traded on the northern bourse, worth VND 一 九 五 billion.
